Le tigre

Les lumières sont en fête et les rires joyeux.
Cris de frisson sans peur et paroles d’enfants.
Les jongleurs sont passés, les trapézistes aussi,
suivis du gros nez rouge et d’un faux triste en blanc.
Cacahouettes et entracte et la cage est montée.
L’homme au frac élégant s’avance sous la rampe,
son habit est sans tache, son regard vaniteux.
A travers un passage étriqué et trop bas,
le fauve vient ensuite.
L’échine des voyeurs se refroidit un peu.
L’animal est superbe, son pelage est brillant,
ses crocs sont acérés, ses yeux semblent dorés.
Le fouet de l’homme claque, le felin grogne un peu,
ses muscles sont bandés.
Le tigre tente de fuir d’un tabouret à l’autre,
sous les ordres du fouet, il ne veut pas jouer.
Il voudrait se coucher, il voudrait l’égorger.
La chair de cet homme doit être répugnante.
Qu’il le laisse donc en paix!
L’homme s’incline un peu, la salle l’applaudit.
Cette bête cruelle comme il la dresse bien.
Le cerceau est en feu, le tigre se refuse,
essaie de griffer, voudrait assassiner.
L’homme brûle sa patte.
Il traverse le cercle sous les applaudissements,
son coeur lui fait si mal, il lèche un peu ses plaies.
Il prie dessous le fouet qui l’envoie à la niche,
pour un jour s’habituer et devenir docile.
